Live translation for church services
Qala translates your sermon in real time into 100+ languages — straight to your international visitors' phones. Free, privacy-friendly, ready in 10 minutes.
For macOS and Windows · Open-source friendly · No subscription
No IT skills required. Install, launch, preach.
Download Qala for Mac or Windows. One double-click on the installer — done. The app runs locally on the church laptop.
Once Qala is running, it listens. Every spoken sentence is transcribed in real time and translated into the target languages you chose.
A QR code on the big screen — visitors scan it with their phone, pick their language and follow along. Audio read-out optional.
Qala was built by a missionary — for churches who want the global heart of Jesus in their Sunday gathering.
OpenAI Whisper runs locally on your laptop. Every sentence is recognised as you speak it — no delay, no cloud dependency for speech-to-text.
From Vietnamese to Arabic to Ukrainian — Qala translates into any language the underlying AI supports. Your congregation becomes a Pentecost moment.
Use Gemini (very cheap), Claude, OpenAI or Kimi/Qwen/MiniMax for Asian languages — or Ollama fully offline. You stay in control of your data and costs.
Visitors connect to your laptop through the church Wi-Fi. No bandwidth cost per guest, no latency — and even a full sanctuary runs smoothly.
For visitors who cannot read well or are visually impaired: the translation is read aloud through headphones. Edge TTS delivers natural voices in 70+ languages — free.
No internet at the venue? With Ollama, local AI models run directly on your machine — no connection needed. Perfect for camps and outdoor services.
Your voice never leaves your laptop. Only the transcribed text is sent to your chosen AI provider — and only if you're not using the local mode.
At the bottom of the viewer page a gentle note points to my media ministry in Southeast Asia — the very work that makes Qala free for every church. No loud advertising, just a small anchor back to the mission.
No licence fee, no subscription. Qala is currently free to use. You only pay the AI provider of your choice — usually just a few cents per service.
From major world languages to regional dialects — Qala speaks whatever your visitors understand.
And many more — the available languages depend on the AI model you choose.
Qala works with all leading AI models. No lock-in — switch whenever you want.
Extremely cheap, high quality, fast. The free tier is enough for most churches.
Best quality for subtle nuances. Claude Haiku is already very affordable, Sonnet for demanding preaching.
GPT-4o-mini is cheap and fast, GPT-4o gives you top-tier quality across every language.
Chinese AI models are often outstanding for Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese).
Open-source models running on your own computer. Zero cost, no internet needed, maximum privacy.
Qala is free. For translation, you pay the AI provider directly — pay-as-you-go, no base fee.
Example: a 2-hour service, preaching in English, translating into 2 target languages:
| Model | 2-hour service | 52 services / year |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini 2.0 Flash | ~ $0.02 | ~ $1 |
| GPT-4o mini | ~ $0.03 | ~ $1.50 |
| Claude Haiku | ~ $0.20 | ~ $10 |
| Claude Sonnet | ~ $0.60 | ~ $30 |
| Ollama (local) | $0.00 | $0.00 |
Prices are estimates based on current API rates (April 2026) and may vary. Many providers offer a monthly free tier that's already sufficient for smaller churches.
Churches with members from many nations — hold one Sunday service, everyone understands.
Ukrainians, Afghans, Persians — new brothers and sisters can join immediately without a language barrier.
Tent missions, open-air services, international conferences — Qala scales with every event.
No expensive interpreter, no headset system. Just a laptop and a mic — and every guest can join in.
My name is Martin Körber — missionary, developer, and someone who has sat through too many trainings where translation was a constant struggle.
I was preparing a training when someone asked me: "Is this available in Vietnamese too?" Instantly, memories of our work in Southeast Asia came back — trainings where translation was exhausting, where content got lost, where communication broke down at language barriers. And I thought: surely AI can solve this.
I tried it — and it worked. Then came the next thought: how many small churches around the world face exactly this problem, and simply can't afford expensive translation software? Why not offer this to the whole body of Christ — open, free, for everyone?
Qala isn't a product — it's service. I want to serve the church with the gifts God has given me. I believe strong local churches multiply God's message. And when language barriers stand in the way, I want to help tear them down.
"The Spirit gives to each one as he wills — so that the body grows together and the message goes forward."
